Inspiring Quotes

"This means that nearly half the preschool children of poverty will get a head start on their future.  These children will receive preschool training to prepare them for regular school in September.  They will get medical and dental attention that they badly need, and parents will receive counseling on improving the home environment".

"This is a most remarkable accomplishment and it has been done in a very short time.  It would not be possible except for the willing and the enthusiastic cooperation of Americans throughout the country".

Remarks on Project Head Start

By President Lyndon B. Johnson

The first principle concerns how children learn.  " It is only through the active, meaningful engagement and experimentation with objects and people that children can begin to construct knowledge, logical reasoning, and develop social relationships. This happens most easily through children's play and socialization experiences".

By Abigail Adams Eliot

"I had a built-in passion that it was important to make a real contribution to the world, and to fix all the injustices that existed in the world, and I wanted to do this by teaching".

  1. I love the quote by Abigail Adams Eliot. I think many times as teachers it easy to "lecture" the children and hope they connect the dots. In reality, the children need to explore the world - people and objects around them - to really comprehend and engage their surroundings! I've seen a book in my directors office that is titled, children should work harder then their teachers. As in, children should be the ones using their hands/bodies and brains. Teachers are simply there to guide and support the children through their journey of discovery!

  2. When I read the quote you have for Abigail Adams Eliot I thought, why should children be lectured? I personal feel that children do not need to be lectured but they need the seed to grow with, and we as the teacher need to be the fertilizer for them, and show them how to grow without lecturing but directing them.

  3. I almost chose this quote! It resonated with me so much; I think education is an extremely powerful tool and we are blessed as early childhood educators to be the first in line after the child’s parents to guide them and help them shape their views of the world.
